Voters Stream to the Poll for Primary Election

Some icy weather in Travis County forced the polls to open late today, but otherwise, voting is said to be steady and relatively slow as Texans go to the polls for the primary elections, 1200 WOAI news reports.

You can get all of the results here at woai.com with Stephanie Narvaez starting shortly after the polls close at 7PM.

In addition to candidates for statewide offices, all eyes will be on Democratic Party voter turnout, to see whether the turnout grows to the point where the party can become a major force in Texas politics.

Locally, major races include the Democratic Party primaries for County Judge between incumbent Nelson Wolff and Commissioner Tommy Adkisson and for District Attorney between Nichols LaHood and Teresa Huntzinger.

On the Republican side, runoffs are expected in the races between incumbent Donna Campbell and challengers Nike Novak and Elisa Chan for the state senate District 25, and between Francisco Canseco, Will Hurd and Robert Lowry for the right to take on District 23 Congressman Pete Gallego.

Runoffs are also expected in major Republican battles for Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and Agriculture Commissioner.

Secretary of State Nandita Berry told 1200 WOAI news the turnout for early voting was strong.

"We've had a 6.8% for the eleven days of early voting in this primary," she said.
