Wendy Davis Releases Tax Returns

Likely Democratic governor nominee Wendy Davis earned $284,000 in 2012, according to income tax returns released today, making her the wealthiest of the candidates for governor, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Davis reported about $121,000 in income from Newby Davis, her Ft. Worth law firm, and the rest of her income was from investments, real estate holdings, and her $7200 salary as a member of the State Senate, which her tax returns duly reported.

The $950 that Davis reported donating to charity is on the low side for somebody in her tax bracket.

Davis paid $79,000 in federal income taxes for the 2012 tax year.

Davis released three years worth of tax returns.  Her adjusted gross income has risen sharply over that time.  In 2010, Davis earned $131,000.

Davis is single and filed an individual tax return. Greg Abbott, the likely Republican nominee, is married.  His tax returns showed that he and his wife together made about $200,000 in income in 2012.  The salary of the Texas Attorney General is $150,000 a year.

But Abbott's taxes do not include a tax free insurance annuity he collects as part of a settlement of the 1984 accident that left him paralyzed.

The amount of money Abbott collects from that is not known.
