USAA Releases List of 'Best Value' Vehicles

USAA Releases List of 'Best Value' Vehicles

Some cars are cheap to buy, other cars are cheap to drive, but what cars are all of that, and more?

San Antonio based USAA has released its annual list of the cars, trucks, SUVs and vans which are the 'best value,' and nationally known auto expert Lauren Fix, who works with USAA on the "Best Value Vehicles' list says a lot more goes into a car being 'best value' than just the sticker price.

"It's about insurance, depreciation, fuel economy, maintenance, and the fact that there are no recalls," Fix told 1200 WOAI news.  "If the car was on a recall, it is not included in our list."

She says USAA uses a proprietary rating system, and safety ratings from the Insurance Institute from Highway Safety to come up with its final winners.

"Safety, reliability, and it has to be a top IIHS safety pick," she said.  "The whole purpose of the list to so people don't have 'buyer's remorse.'  They want to have a vehicle they can rely on and be safe on the road."

The best value large sedan according to the USAA study is the Dodge Charger.  The Dodge Avenger is the best midsized sedan, and Fix says it is noteworthy that many American-made cars and labels are on the list.

"They are on the list because they deserve to be there," she said.  "We should be proud of the performance of the U.S. auto industry."

The San Antonio built Toyota Tundra is the number one best value large pickup.  Also on the list, the Chevy Traverse as the best large SUV, and the Lincoln MKS as the best large luxury sedan.
