Texas Child Porn Viewer Ordered to Seek Out, Pay Damages to All the Children in the Videos He Watched

A Texas child porn viewer has received a tough sentence---with a twist.

1200 WOAI news reports that in addition to 15 years in prison, Corey Farmer, 27, of Midland has also been ordered to pay more than $150,000 to the children who were victimized by being forced to appear in the child pornography Farmer viewed.

Farmer pled guilty to possession of child pornography in federal court, telling the judge that he used multiple peer-to-peer programs to search for and acquire child porn images.

Farmer conceded he ‘forgot’ to turn off the sharing feature of the software, people around the world were able to view the child porn on his computer.

When the FBI searched Farmer’s home, they discovered more than 1300 child porn images on his home computer.

Farmer was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after he gets out of prison.

The courts have recently ruled that people who view child pornography can be forced to seek out and pay damages to children who were in the images they viewed, even if those children are now adults.  The courts said the child victims of the child pornography trade deserve financial restitution just like any other individual who has been the victim of a crime, even though they might have been too young to realize they were being exploited.
