Shooting of Bexar Deputy Ruled Accidental

A Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy is nursing a gunshot would following what officials describe as an 'accidental shooting' Wednesday night, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Paul Berry tells 1200 WOAI news that Deputy Christopher Saxon was off duty and not in uniform, and had accompanied his wife, who is a real estate agent, to show a home in the 2600 block of Grayson Way, which is near Thousand Oaks and Henderson Pass on the north east side.

Berry says when the deputy's wife knocked on the door and nobody answered, she used her realtors key to enter the home.

But the female homeowner had been in the shower, and when she got out and heard the home's burglar alarm going off.

"She got out of the shower, heard the alarm, and came downstairs and saw three people in her home that she did not know," Barry said.  "She grabbed a handgun and fired one shot, hitting our off duty deputy."

Berry says the deputy suffered non life threatening wounds and will recover.

"He was not wearing any clothing that would have identified him as a peace officer," Berry said.

He said the woman will not face criminal charges.
