Police Officer Shoots at Armed Man During Struggle

A known gang member is facing a long list of charges after allegedly assaulting a San Antonio Police Officer, and forcing the officer to shoot at him overnight.

Officer Roger Zuniga says it all began when gang unit officers who were patrolling in the 5200 block of Fredericksburg Road noticed a man who was throwing objects at passing vehicles.

Zuniga says when the two officers in the vehicle approached the man, he bolted from officers, and ran across Fredericksburg Road to Mockingbird Lane, with the officers right behind.

One of the officers caught up with the suspect, identifies as Bryant Keith Price, 43, who began to 'physically resist.'  At that time, the second officer saw the suspect reach into his pants and observe what appeared to be a handgun.

At that point, the first officer pulled his own weapon and fired.

"He shot and missed the suspect, and after that the suspect was taken into custody," he told 1200 WOAI news.  "After a brief struggle."

The suspect has not been identified, and Zuniga says the suspect was treated for minor injuries he suffered in the struggle.

"A weapon was recovered at the scene, a revolver," Zuniga said.  "The suspect also had what we believe to be marijuana in his possession as well."

The suspect, in his early 40s, was taken downtown for booking.  He was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and resisting arrest.  The officer who fired his weapon was not hurt, but will be placed on desk duty while the incident is investigated.
