Nidal Hasan, no longer 'Major' Nidal Hasan, has begun his confinement at the U.S. Military disciplinary barracks at Fort Leavenworth Kansas, 1200 WOAI news reports.
Hasan, who was sentenced to death for the murder of 13 people during a shooting spree at Ft. Hood in 2009, will be housed at Leavenworth while his mandatory appeals are completed. Those appeals could take years.
There has been talk that Hasan's eventual destination will be the Supermax maximum security federal penitentiary in Florence, Colorado.
Hasan is no longer a Major and is no longer a member of the U.S. armed forces. Along with sentencing him to death, the court martial stripped Hasan of all 'pay and benefits' and handed him a dishonorable discharge from the Army.
