New Medical School Planned for San Antonio

New Medical School Planned for San Antonio

San Antonio will host soon its second medical
school.

The University of the Incarnate Word's President
Lou Agnese, PhD, says they're opening a new medical
school.

"That is for sure, you can put that
in the bank."

Agnese says with a growing demand
for health care professionals, along with
the nation's aging
population, it makes sense.

"We have a School of Nursing,
Health Professions, a School of Optemetry
and Physical Therapy ... this would be
the crown jewel."

"We had our meeting last Friday
of the board of trustees of the
university and we brought a recommendation
from the administration to go ahead
with the next phase
which would be the formal feasibility
study," he says.

It will be a school of osteopathy
graduating doctors schooled
in an holistic approach.

Agnese says they're
scouting locations now.

"Either by the 5 hospitals downtown,
the second at Brooks City Base,
the third near Ft. Sam at East
Walters and I 35."

The fourth possible location
would be at the Medical Center.

If all goes as planned
school is slated to open
in 2016.
