Life in Prison for Wrong Way Drunk Driver

Life in Prison for Wrong Way Drunk Driver

Merry Christmas, you're going to prison for the rest of your life!

1200 WOAI news reports a 37 year old wrong way driver has been sentenced to the maximum term of life in prison for slamming head on into another car on US 281, killing the driver of the other car.

Frances Ford had a blood alcohol content of .19 at the time of the wreck in October of 2010, and she already had two DWI's on her record.

The accident happened on Highway 281 just north of Hildebrand.

Prosecutors charged her with felony murder, and jurors, fed up with a rash of wrong way drunk drivers in the city, agreed with the prosecution’s request for the maximum sentence for Ford.

She is the third killer, and the second 'car killer' this week to be sentenced to life in prison.  A 32 year old man was sentenced to life on Monday for killing a one year old child when he slammed into a car while he was fleeing from police with a load of marijuana in his car.

On Tuesday, a man was sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his ex girlfriend's new boyfriend 16 times and then slashing the tires of his car.

District Attorney Susan Reed says the life sentences smashes the so called 'Christmas myth,' the idea that jurors are 'more forgiving' near Christmas.
