Knights of Columbus to Hold International Convention in SA

The Knights of Columbus is holding their 131st annual International Convention in San Antonio, starting Tuesday.

The event is expected to bring more than 2,000 Knights and their families along with several individuals within the Catholic hierarchy.

“We'll have more than a hundred members of the Catholic hierarchy, including more than 90 bishops and archbishops,” said Andrew Walther, Vice President for communication for the Knight’s of Columbus. “We’re also very excited to have 11 Cardinals join us... so it's a huge gathering of leadership from the Catholic Church.”

The convention will be the largest gathering of prominent Catholic leaders in America outside of the annual U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ meetings, Walther said.

“Since it is the ‘international’ conference, members and hierarchy will travel from all over the country and world,” Walther said. “North and Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Europe.”

The event starts Tuesday morning through Thursday at the JW Marriott Hill Country Hotel. This will be the sixth time the convention is being held in Texas, two  of which were previously held in San Antonio both in 1937 and 1990.

San Antonio obviously has such a rich Catholic history and traditions,” Walther said. “We're really happy to be here again, it's just a fabulous place to be.”
