Early Flu Season Seen

Doctors are keeping an eye out on flu cases cropping up earlier
than usual. UT Health Science Center Fred Campbell, M.D., says flu
is one of those things that bears watching.

"We want to make sure that the population of San Antonio
and the surrounding area knows
that there are large numbers of cases so that they can get their
flu vaccines early."

Campbell says flu can be fatal so they always keep an eye on the illness.

"It can be a relatively severe respiratory virus so complications
like pneumonia, which can be life threatening, are very common
in the very young and in the very old."

"Flu can also affect people with a reduced immunity," he says.

It takes two weeks for the flu shot to take effect so it's not too early
to get one, says Campbell.
